Great thoughts, Danny! I appreciate your attempt to untangle (or perhaps intertwine) those seemingly disparate parts of film review: technical detail and pure enjoyment. I've found the latter to be very hard (maybe impossible) to justify objectively but, of the two, the more impactful in my rating of a film and certainly my chances of rewatching it.

It's a complicated thing for sure. Like I really didn't particularly enjoy any part of Seven Samurai, but the technical accomplishment still warrants admiration. I do think you can justify entertainment value, though. Even the Criterion collection has some films, like Dazed and Confused, that are mainly just "a good time."

Rewatching is interesting as this project will have me rewatch a lot of movies (about a quarter of them), some of them I'm eager to revisit (Daisies) and some less so (Picnic at Hanging Rock, in a couple weeks). So we'll see how that goes. I'm glad you appreciated the more abstract topic this week.
